A straight style yatate with a latching lid. On this yatate, the brush actually exists through a hole in the front of the ink basin (see the photos below to get a better idea of what we are talking about here.
The there is a small latch on top of the ink basin lid to lock it shut. There is also a sliding ring around the brush tube that has another ring attached for sagemono or netsuke attachment.

An appropriately sized fude (Japanese writing brush) is included with this yatate
